Summary

Opposites become allies to fool their matchmaking friends in this swoony reimagining of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, Much Ado About Nothing。

Jamie Westenberg and Bea Wilmot have nothing in common except a meet-disaster and the mutual understanding that they couldn't be more wrong for each other。 But when the people closest to them play Cupid and trick them into going on a date, Jamie and Bea realize they have something else in common after all—an undeniable need for revenge。

Soon their plan is in place: Fake date obnoxiously and convince the meddlers they’re madly in love。 Then, break up spectacularly and dash their hopes, putting an end to the matchmaking madness once and for all。

To convince everyone that they’ve fallen for each other, Jamie and Bea will have to nail the performance of their lives。 But as their final act nears and playing lovers becomes easier than not, they begin to wonder, what if Cupid’s arrow wasn’t so off the mark? And what if two wrongs do make a right?

Are you serious? Toward the end he is portrayed and has thoughts of a very sexually confident man (magic how that anxiety disappears when it’s convenient isn’t it) but also is inexperienced enough that he comes in his pants during their first encounter。 Actually no, him never hearing of edging makes sense if he’s so sensitive that being touched over his pants brings him there。 Ok last thing。 The thought that MMC seeps through TWO LAYERS OF CLOTHING and still “soaks” FMC’s stomach has me a lil queasy。 Anyway。 The b plot of the sister in an abusive relationship was not my favorite either。 Can’t women catch a break? Why do identical twins have to both be emotionally abused and manipulated by subpar men in order to bond at the end of a book? Since sister isn’t confiding in FMC we don’t get a true engaging in the story— it is only relevant because somehow our sex-challenged Dr。 MMC is living with some asshat named Jean-Claude。 (Yeah, didn’t see that guy with that name being a problem。) Also I wonder if MMC billed FMC’s insurance when she showed up UNINVITED TO HIS WORKPLACE after he nearly ghosts her where there are sick children and likely back to back appointments。 Side note: ever think of just calling or texting? Doesn’t seem like FMC did either before deciding to stalk him。 We also meet someone named Ned whose job or relationship to MMC is never revealed or mentioned after that page。 It’s just “Ned says” and I have to assume he is a MA or a PA but could be a nurse or colleague。 Nobody knows。 In the end, too much kept me from being fully engaged and I don’t plan to keep this book。 my ratings--5 star = Delivered more than I expected; will read again, think about often, probably read fanfiction, and recommend widely4 star= Delivered exactly what I expected; will read again at some point, will recommend with a hedge of some kind ("It's。。。 cute! It's。。。 monster romance!")3 star= This was fine。 I wouldn't read it again。 Might recommend based on if a friend likes similar books。2 star= It was a slog to finish this but I felt like I had to。 A sub-par execution of the story1 star= I actively disliked the plot, the characters, and will be donating the book ASAP。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this!! Fake dating is hit or miss for me, especially with revenge involved。 But while the setup was a little shaky, I ultimately really liked the execution。 You got the whole is this real/is this fake vibe without it being too drawn out, and they didn't choose revenge over pursuing a real relationship, which I was really worried about。 The only thing is I didn't like the third-act breakup。 (view spoiler)[I didn't think it really made sense that Jamie had to stay away after Julie I really enjoyed this!! Especially once she realized the extent of Bea's previous breakup。 And then the story focused more on Jamie realizing he was wrong when he really wasn't?? Idk。 Fortunately the third act breakup was pretty short, so it didn't ruin the book for me。 (hide spoiler)] All in all, I enjoyed this a lot, and I'm really looking forward to Kate and Christopher's story! 。。。more

DNF 39% endless telling, very little showing, not nearly enough witty banter。 Wouldn’t know it’s a Much Ado About Nothing retelling if it didn’t say so in the blurb。

how many times can an author reference a character blushing? apparently more than 40 before I stopped counting because it was becoming ridiculous and repetitive。 there were also three instances of blushing in the 11 pages of the book excerpt at the end of this one。 BRUH。

good book!Chloe Liese does a great job of creating flawed characters without you feeling sorry forty for them。 She also creates relatable characters whether you identify as them or just see their human trait of vulnerability。 Loved it!

My favourite thing about Chloe’s writing has to be her love for her characters and how every detail is so thoughtful。 I fall in love with all of her characters because of those tiny details。 Because of the care she takes to consistently show us each person’s most special parts。 Jamie and Bea are an unlikely but somehow perfect match。 I love Bea’s chaotic energy and Jamie’s soft heart。 A paediatrician who rescues elderly cats? And then the soup in the freezer? I was done for。 I can’t wait to read My favourite thing about Chloe’s writing has to be her love for her characters and how every detail is so thoughtful。 I fall in love with all of her characters because of those tiny details。 Because of the care she takes to consistently show us each person’s most special parts。 Jamie and Bea are an unlikely but somehow perfect match。 I love Bea’s chaotic energy and Jamie’s soft heart。 A paediatrician who rescues elderly cats? True love is finding someone who makes you feel safe enough to be your authentic self, to be honest and vulnerable。 I knew I would love this book as Chloe has become one of my favorite authors of all time。 The representation, in my opinion is top tier, and while I am not autistic I do have ADHD and related to Bea in ways I’ve never connected with a character。 Jamie blew me away。 While he can come across as an uptight rigid man, he was observant, attentive, thoughtful and intentional with his ac True love is finding someone who makes you feel safe enough to be your authentic self, to be honest and vulnerable。 I knew I would love this book as Chloe has become one of my favorite authors of all time。 The representation, in my opinion is top tier, and while I am not autistic I do have ADHD and related to Bea in ways I’ve never connected with a character。 Jamie blew me away。 While he can come across as an uptight rigid man, he was observant, attentive, thoughtful and intentional with his actions。 As he is someone who deals with anxiety, the feelings of being judged, not being valued, appreciated and loved for who is, plays a huge part in why he is the way he is with Bea。 She sees him for who he is and loves him fully without reservation, and he does the same。 *also the sex scenes are chefs kiss, make my panties wet, swoon worthy like no other*This is hands down without a doubt my favorite book of the year and more than likely will be listening to the audiobook again before the end of the year。 。。。more

She breaks up with him, because her sister is going through a rough break up and she doesn’t want her sister to always see Jamie because that would remind her of her toxic relationship?!? 4。5 stars。 a meet-disaster where a pediatrician meets an erotic artist? count me in。this romance author is on my favorites list。 she does something so special with her characters (i。e。 portrayals of neurodiversity & social anxiety)I am, however, taking off half a star for the unnecessary and irrational 4th act breakup。

You know how some books become DNFs because you’re not in the right headspace for it? Well, this book is the opposite — because I had more headspace than usual, I was more generous with reading it than I otherwise would be and finished it, when I might not have been able to otherwise。This book did not work for me, which is a shame because ever since Chloe Liese’s first Bergman Brothers book, I haven’t jived with any of her writing。 I think that first book was an exception to the rule :/Spoilers You know how some books become DNFs because you’re not in the right headspace for it? And then they became mortal enemies until their friends set them up? And they went along with it as revenge? This just did not hold water for me at all。 And then near the end, after the heroine’s sister goes through a shitty breakup, the hero and heroine MUST BREAK UP because they met each other through the heroine’s sister and them being in touch would remind the sister of her failed breakup? WHAT。 And then they got back together because the heroine’s sister went on a trip to find herself? So you’re telling me they wouldn’t have gotten back together otherwise? 🥴🥴🥴 (I’ve never read Much Ado About Nothing — maybe this book matches the play beat by beat, but all I know is that it didn’t translate for a contemporary。)Furthermore, while I understand this story was about people accepting each other no matter the obstacles, I think there was TOO little conflict over this — it felt like the characters are too fully formed and just a little too perfect, meaning that there were no stakes and people were always 100% accepting。 While I understand that’s a fantasy that’s totally acceptable to many readers, it was just a little too easy for me。Finally, I found the characters’ internal dialogues towards each other just too mushy and overly earnest。 I know this is a me thing, so very much YMMV on this。 。。。more
